Why large TVs are quoted separately
An 85 inch TV is not simply a bigger version of a 55. Three things change at once: the panel weight roughly doubles, the mount has to span further to reach solid studs, and a small error in level is far more visible across a wider screen.
That is why big screens are a two person install here. One person supporting a 90 pound panel while the other lines up the bracket is how TVs get dropped.
Weight rating matters more than screen size
Mount boxes advertise a size range, but the number that actually matters is the weight rating. A mount rated "up to 85 inches" can still be under rated for a specific heavy 85 inch model.
We check the mount against your TV's actual weight before it goes on the wall. If the mount you bought is not rated for the panel, we will tell you rather than fit it and hope.
VESA, in one sentence
VESA is the spacing of the four threaded holes on the back of your TV, given in millimetres, such as 400 x 400. The mount has to match that pattern or come with an adapter. Large TVs commonly use 600 x 400 or 800 x 400, which is wider than the studs in a typical wall, and that is exactly why the mount plate and stud positions need thinking about together.
Can your wall take it?

- Brick and block are very strong, and take masonry anchors
- Stone works, but the anchor points have to be chosen around the stone rather than on a grid
- A wall with the studs in an awkward place may need a mount with a wider plate

Where a large TV should sit
The most common mistake with a big screen is mounting it too high. A ametre plus of screen height means the centre of the picture ends up well above eye level if you hang it where a smaller TV would go.

When you do not need a full motion mount
Full motion mounts are popular for large TVs and are often unnecessary. They cost more, stick out further from the wall, and on a very large panel the arm has to be substantial to hold the weight without sagging.
If you watch from one sofa facing the TV, a fixed mount will look better and sit flatter. Save the full motion mount for rooms where you genuinely watch from two very different positions, or where you need to reach behind the TV regularly.
