How to Prepare for Your TV Installation

The short version

• Move heavy furniture a couple of feet off the wall
• Have the TV and the mount in the room, boxed is fine
• Have any devices you want connected nearby, such as a soundbar or streaming box
• Have a rough idea of the height you want, we will advise
• Someone over 18 needs to be home

What you do not need to do

This list matters as much as the one above, because people spend time on things that make no difference.

• You do not need to unbox the TV, though it helps if it is easy for you
• You do not need to find the studs, that is part of the job
• You do not need to buy special tools or hardware
• You do not need to patch or prepare the wall
• You do not need to clean up afterwards, packaging leaves with us

The one decision worth making in advance

Height. It is the only thing that is genuinely awkward to change afterwards, and the one people most often get wrong by guessing.

Sit where you actually watch from and notice where your eyeline lands on the wall. You want the middle of the screen near there. That usually puts the TV lower than people expect, especially on a big screen. Our height guide has worked examples.

We mark the position and have you look at it before anything is drilled, so you get a final say standing in the room. But arriving with a rough idea makes that conversation quicker.

Things worth mentioning when you book

None of these are problems, they just change how long the job takes or what we bring.

• The wall is brick, stone, or plaster
• It is going above a fireplace
• It is a rental or apartment
• You want the wires tidied into raceway
• There is a soundbar, or devices that need connecting
• The TV is larger than 85 inches

How long to set aside

A single TV on drywall is usually about an hour. Add time for masonry walls, oversized screens, above fireplace placements, or a full cable run. We tell you the expected time when we quote, so you can plan the rest of your day around it rather than waiting on us.
